Discover the Best 55+ Communities in Frederick, Maryland
Thinking about retiring in Frederick, Maryland? With its charming community and convenient amenities, Frederick is a fantastic choice for those looking to enjoy their golden years. Today, I'm going to share with you three top-notch 55+ communities in the area that you should definitely consider. Let's dive right in. If you prefer to watch, following along over at my YouTube channel.
Bloomfields by Ryan and NV Homes
First on our list is the expansive Bloomfields community, situated on the north side of Frederick just off Route 15. This major route offers easy access to downtown Frederick and even a straight shot up to Gettysburg, PA. One of the perks of Bloomfields is its prime location at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains, providing scenic views as you drive through the area. From here, it's just a 15-minute trip to downtown Frederick, and you're within a comfortable commute to both Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.
Bloomfields is poised to be a massive community with hundreds of homes and a plethora of amenities. Ryan Homes is offering two styles of homes here: villa-style homes and single-family homes. The villas are two-story townhouses with main-level owner suites, featuring three bedrooms, two-and-a-half baths, a one-car garage, and optional finished basements and covered porches.
For those who prefer single-family homes, Ryan Homes offers three ranch-style floor plans: the Grand Bahama, the Grand Cayman, and the Eden Cay. These range from just over 1,500 square feet to just over 1,700 square feet. These homes offer options for additional bedrooms and recreation spaces in the basement, along with a covered deck on the main level.
NV Homes is also contributing to Bloomfields with five models: the Albright, the Bennington, the Clarkson, the Davenport, and the Starlight. These homes range from under 3,000 to nearly 4,000 square feet.
The Albright and Starlight are Cape Cod-style homes, while the Bennington, Clarkson, and Davenport are two-story homes with main-level owner suites. Each model offers a range of customization options, including additional bedrooms, covered porches, and flex rooms.
Beyond the homes, Bloomfields boasts an impressive list of amenities, including a clubhouse, fitness center, pool, putting green, indoor golf simulator, pickleball, tennis, bocce, and basketball courts, as well as parks and trails. Residents can also enjoy various clubs and events coordinated by a full-time activity director.
The Woodlands by NV Homes
Next up is The Woodlands by NV Homes, located in the Villages of Urbana, a large planned community on the south side of Frederick. This area is closer to Washington, D.C., making it a great option for those who may still need to commute or simply want to be nearer to the city.
While The Woodlands shares many similarities with Bloomfields in terms of amenities, it stands out due to its location and price point. The Woodlands doesn’t offer the Starlight floor plan, and the starting prices are significantly higher due to the sought-after nature of Urbana. For example, at the time of this writing the Albright starts at $829,900 here, compared to $679,900 at Bloomfields. The highest-priced model, the Davenport, starts at $934,900, which is about $130,000 more than in Bloomfields.
(Disclaimer: Prices in these communities change frequently and are likely different than the time of this writing.)
The higher prices are largely attributed to Urbana’s prestigious reputation, highly-rated school system, and convenient access to I-270, making it a desirable location for those who wish to stay connected to the D.C. area. However, if you're more focused on enjoying Frederick and don't need to be closer to the city, you might find the price difference hard to justify.
Crestwood Village
Lastly, if you're looking for a more budget-friendly option, on the south side of Frederick might be just what you need. This existing community, developed in the 1980s, offers single-family detached homes, semi-detached homes, and apartment-style condos. These homes are generally smaller and less luxurious than those in Bloomfields or The Woodlands, but they come at a much more affordable price point. The median home price here at the time of this writing is around $330,000.
Crestwood Village has its own set of amenities, including an outdoor pool, clubhouse, billiards, shuffleboard courts, tennis courts, exercise rooms, and a mini-golf course. Homes in this community tend to sell quickly, often through word of mouth, so if you’re interested, it’s crucial to act fast.
Making the Right Choice for Your Retirement
Choosing the right community for your retirement depends on your preferences and budget. Whether you’re drawn to the luxurious, amenity-rich lifestyle offered by Bloomfields and The Woodlands, or prefer the more affordable and practical option of Crestwood Village, Frederick has something for everyone.
